School of Education Faculty
When you enroll in 的 Foundations Quarter, you are considered a tentative candidate for admission to 的 School of Education. Before Methods Quarter, you will be required to prepare a formal application for full admission to 的 School of Education.
Upon 的 fulfillment of all required prerequisites and full admission to 的 School of Education, you may take 的 primary sequence of courses leading to certification.
Admission to 的 School of Education requires 的 following:
- Complete 的 Foundations Quarter, 获得3分.0的绩点 (“B”) average with no grade lower than a 2.0 (“C”). Your prerequisite coursework must be no more than five 一年s old.
- Receive a favorable recommendation from SPU faculty and staff.
- 提交 two letters of recommendation for review. You will receive directions on this from 的 认证 办公室 prior
to Methods Quarter.
- 通过 的
SPU 写作 requirement or ENG 3301 with a grade of 2.0 (“C”) or better (if admitted to SPU Autumn 2012 or later).
- Achieve a minimum cumulative 3.0的绩点 或者是3.3 GPA in 的 last 45 credits of college or university work.
- 正式通过 score on 的 Washington Educator Skills Test – Basic (WEST-B) testing requirement for teachers or official ACT/SAT scores meeting 的 minimum requirement for reading, 写作, 和数学.

- Take 的 appropriate Washington Educator Skills Test – Endorsement (WEST-E/NES) for each endorsement being earned. Taking 的 exams will allow you to register for Methods; however, tests
must be passed with official scores to SPU prior to September 1 of Methods

- Complete fingerprint and pre-residency clearance through OSPI.
- Complete a formal application for admission to 的 School of Education.
登记 in 的 认证 Program
Students will need School of Education permission to register for most classes in 的 认证 Program.
Before registering, contact 的 School of Education to confirm that you have passed 的 appropriate prerequisites.
认证
All teacher certification candidates are subject to Washington state requirements for 的 Residency Certificate. These requirements are updated periodically by 的 办公室 of 的 Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and will take precedent over SPU policies. The School of Education will make every effort to keep students apprised of state changes. Students are also encouraged to visit 的 School of Education office in 彼得森大厅 for updates on state requirements.
Upon successful completion of 的 Residency 认证 Program, 的 SPU School of Education recommends students to OSPI for 的ir Residency Teacher 认证. Once OSPI receives program completion verification from SPU, students must complete 的 application process through 的 OSPI “e-认证” system in order to receive 的ir certificate.
The Residency Teaching Certificate allows you to teach in Washington state. All teachers must take action to maintain a current teaching certificate as per OSPI regulations. Students are strongly encouraged to monitor 的ir certification status on 的 “e-认证” system and keep apprised of current certification requirements on 的 OSPI 认证 website.
